The term ‘ubuntu’ which literally means person has come to be a short-hand for the proverb, ‘umuntu ngumuntu ngabanye abantu’ or a person is a person by and because of other people. This apparently simple statement about people’s interconnectedness with each other underlies many philosophical and aesthetic questions, as well as many societal practices on the continent of Africa and wider.

The Art and Ubuntu trust is developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between art and ubuntu through its ongoing projects. We hope to open a web-based forum at a later stage
